Grindmaster OPOD PrecisionBrewTM Single Cup Coffee / Tea Brewing System - with 10 FREE Pods Review

Grindmaster OPOD PrecisionBrewTM Single Cup Coffee / Tea Brewing System - with 10 FREE PodsI bought this to replace my Bunn pod brewer.I liked the Bunn, but after going through three in two years, I figured it was time to try another brand. The Grindmaster is somewhat of a commercial-grade product and hopefully it will last longer.

Grindmaster pros include:

- Quickly brews good-tasting and very hot coffee (adjustable)
- Works with every brand of pods we've tried
- Has a large water tank, and can be plumbed for automatic fillup
- Reasonably good looking, although a bit larger than others
- Lets you program the unit to exactly fill your favorite cup

On the negative side, about the only thing I've noticed is that the unit is a bit loud when running, and there's no way to turn off the (relatively bright) blue water level indicator lamp on the front of the unit.

I'd rate the overall quality as somewhat above the Bunn and other brands, but it's not necessarily in a completely different league.

Gaggia 0077 Milk Island 0.4-Liter, Black Review

Gaggia 0077 Milk Island 0.4-Liter, BlackWhile I think this attachment is a good idea, it needs a little redesign.It is hard to get it twisted on firmly enough to froth the milk.It is not so very easy to clean.It would also be nice if it held more milk.

Product Description:
The Milk Island is a fantastic compliment to the Gaggia Platinum machines. The machine already brews your espresso at the touch of a button, and now the milk island froths your milk just as easily. Pour your milk into the Milk Island, turn the steam knob to the Milk Island position, and watch as your fresh cold milk turns into hot, creamy, delicious froth for your cappuccino or latte. The milk is contained in the Milk Island so no milk enters the machine so it won't clog and it is easy to clean. It can be completely taken apart for rinsing in no time at all. It's completely hands off and so easy your kids can use it to heat their milk for their hot cocoa!For a nice creamy latte, swirl the milk in the milk island before pouring to mix the steamed and frothed milk. For a cappuccino hold back the frothed milk with a spoon to pour the hot steamed milk then remove the spoon and pour out the frothed milk topping.

Nescafe Dolce Gusto Single Serve Coffee Machines Review

Nescafe Dolce Gusto Single Serve Coffee MachinesI want to love this machine. If you are considering purchasing the Dolce Gusto machine I STRONGLY suggest you sample the coffee first (I think Sur La Table has demo machines). Here's what I like about the machine:
* The design is sleek.
* It's well made and sturdy.
* The machine heats the water up really fast- once you turn it you're ready to make coffee in well under a minute.
* The machine is incredibly easy to use. (see attached video for a demo of a cappuccino)
* No real cleanup required after each use.

Now for the bad...
* The machine comes with a latte macchiato glass, a cappuccino cup and saucer. Unfortunately the packaging was very poor (not enough bubble wrap) and the saucer arrived cracked.
* The coffee is horrible. As good as the physical machine is... it is only as good as the coffee it makes. All the milk based Dolce Gusto drinks are excessively sweet, taste artificial and have a ton of sugar and have anywhere from 3.5g-6g of fat.
*The non-milk drinks are very disappointing as well. Both the espresso and lungo aren't very strong and taste very average.

I have posted video demonstrations for each of the drinks in my reviews of :
* Cappuccino
* Espresso
* Chococino
* Caffe Lungo
* Latte Macchiato

Senseo SL7810/65 Single-Serve Gourmet Coffee Machine, Black Review

Senseo SL7810/65 Single-Serve Gourmet Coffee Machine, BlackFor the most part I love the coffee that comes out of my Senseo. Unfortunately there's too little of it.

Before you start railing against over-sized everything, look at your coffee cup. I bet it's a 12 ounce cup, or at least a 10. A 4 oz cup is an espresso cup, tiny, great for espresso, too small for coffee.

So, it takes 2 pods to brew an 8oz cup. I've lived in Japan, and it'd be perfect for the way they drink coffee, but not the way people seem to drink it in the states. Mug in the morning to get going, mug mid day to keep going. Two "cups" of coffee would mean using six senseo pods in a day, every day.

The coffee is delicious, rich, soft... yes its crema. Very yummy. But it costs roughly 40 cents per 8oz, depending on which pods you buy and where.

My buddy gave me his Senseo machine because it was impractical to fill a travel mug with it, and it only filled his coffee mugs (12oz) 2/3 with the 8oz max pour (yes, you could do multiple runs, but doesn't that defeat the purpose of a pod system?)

So I like the coffee a lot, but the servings were too small, the water reservoir too small, and the coffee too pricey. Great espresso machine, not so great coffee machine.

I've stayed with a pod system, but switched to Keurig. Their K-Cups are roughly the same cost, but you get a lot more variety, and more coffee per pod. 12oz instead of 4oz. Also, you can do tea and even fill a mesh pod with your own coffee.

Keurig has a better system with about the same upfront cost, same pod cost, but you get more coffee, more conveniently, and it tastes great.
